Almost Perfect

Over the 135 years of Major League Baseball history, there have been only been 23 official perfect games by the current definition. Last night, there was almost a 24th.

Yu Darvish debuted this month, last year. He went 4-0 in April with a 2.18 ERA and 33 strikeouts. The rookie even made the All Star Game. But who would've thought that one year later, he would be in the midst of pitching a perfect game. Albeit against The Houston Astros. But a perfect game is still quite a feat no matter what.

I admit, I wasn't watching this game until I heard he was 6-7 innings deep working on a perfect game. I had to tune in and see if he was going to get the job done. He was the center of attention sitting down 26 Astro players in a row until giving up a clean hit up the middle to Marwin Gonzalez with 2 outs in the 9th. The Rangers then removed him from the game. Rangers reliever Michael Kirkman finished the job and Texas won 7-0.

Is Yu Darvish that good, or is Houston really that bad?

Well, this isn't the first time The Astros were on the wrong end of a perfect game. Matt Cain dominated them last June claiming a perfect game himself. People were calling it one of the most dominating pitching performances ever. Darvish's fastball was clocking in at over 95 mph and his slider is absolutely filthy.

The Rangers are gonna need more performances for this guy especially with The Angels in their division after stealing beloved hero Josh Hamilton away from them.

Most people, like me, are picking The Angels to come out AL West, but if The Rangers have a shot, Yu Darvish will be the reason. He is becoming their ace, without question.
